Dr. David M. Kakiashvili, MD
Specialization: Dr. Kakiashvili serves as the Director of Urologic Oncology, Chief of Robotic Surgery, and Deputy Director of the Department of Urology at Rambam Health Care Campus. In his clinical practice, he strives to manage complex urologic malignancies with the use of advanced, minimally-invasive technologies.
Education: A graduate of the State Medical University in Georgia, Dr. Kakiashvili completed his urology training at Rambam in 2006. In addition, he undertook a one-year research fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Finally, he completed his clinical fellowship in urologic oncology and minimally invasive surgery at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada. Dr. Kakiashvili is certified by the American, Canadian, and Israeli Societies of Urologic Oncology. In addition, he is the holder of an international certificate in robotic surgery
Clinical Experience: Dr. Kakiashvili is one of very few urologic surgeons in Israel who has been trained in both urologic oncology and robotic surgery. His areas of expertise include robotic nerve-sparing prostatectomy, preserving urinary continence and sexual function, and the performance of organ-saving robotic surgery for kidney tumors. In addition, Dr. Kakiashvili performs complex reconstructive surgery for bladder cancer, nerve-sparing retroperitoneal surgery for metastatic testicular cancer, and surgery for adrenal tumors
Research and Academic Activities: Dr. Kakiashvili has done extensive research in the fields of urologic cancer and the assessment of new surgical technologies.
Social Activity: A mentor in the field of robotic surgery, Dr. Kakiashvili is esteemed as an invited speaker. He also performs live robotic surgeries at acclaimed international medical meetings. He was declared the 2012 “Man of the Year in Medicine" by Radio Haifa, Israel. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Kakiashvili is fluent in Hebrew, English, Russian, and Georgian.
